Laniakea (poem)

eight thousand galaxies mapped
to find ourselves a place
in this immeasurable heaven
something it’s just not possible to grasp
speechless at the scale of it
each mega-bit a tiny part
you branch like the veins of a leaf
our milky massif‘s speck near a tip
a fifty-three thousand light year span
but one percent of one percent
amid your stretch of five hundred million
this local cluster, four hundred billion stars,
just one of one hundred thousand clusters

so what of one small star
of minute lives, of their immensity
