in the Augustan period i understand this type of gladiator emerged – with a trident and a net.

i wonder how we may understand that, perhaps as a function of authoritarian regimes at the fall of the republic?

their tactics, a ‘net’ indeed in which to catch us – and a trident with which to finish the business

i know i’m prosaic and cynical today

perhaps this is only relevant if you find yourself the entertainment / repressed for your truth

and they’ll point to delusion, all their underminings, puncture me more with their barbed medications, emperors lining up to kill what they’ve made helpless
